Raspberry Pi — Picture Frame Concept

Raspberry Pi — Picture Frame Concept

UPDATE – You can see the finished result here.

The general idea is to use a Raspberry Pi along with Chrome in kiosk mode to display a photo gallery that pulls from a Javascript API. Based on some forum posts, I’m consolidating a the instructions for building a custom digital picture frame. The idea is to use the Raspberry Pi to pull photos from Instagram in regular intervals and cache them locally.

I plan to use AOC E1649FWU 16″ USB-Powered Portable LED Monitor for the display.

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install chromium-browser
touch /home/pi/.config/lxsession/LXDE/autostart
echo "@chromium-browser --kiosk -a http://www.google.com/" >> /home/pi/.config/lxsession/LXDE/autostart
sudo nano /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf

Add the following to lightdm.conf

[SeatDefaults]
xserver-command=X -s 0 dpms
